Adam Throughgood House
- Looking for a glimpse of Virginia Beach as seen
from the earliest colonial period, take a tour of
this quaint brick home. From the Oceanfront take
I-264 west to Independence Blvd. and exit onto 17
B, North Independence Blvd. Continue north on Independence
for about 4 miles to Ewell Road. Turn right on Ewell
and proceed for about 5 blocks and turn left onto
Whitehorne Road, continuing until the road takes
a sharp turn to the right and becomes Thoroughgood
Drive. Continue for three blocks and turn right onto
Parish Road, the house will be immediately on the

Cape Henry Lighthouses
- Take Atlantic Avenue to its northern terminus into
the east gate at Fort Story (beyond 89th Street).
The two lighthouses stand on either side of Atlantic
Avenue approximately one mile inside the fort. Fort

Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel
- For a fantastic view of the bay or some mid-bay
pier fishing, take Atlantic Avenue north to 83rd
Street, where it bears to the left and becomes Shore
Drive. Follow the seagull directional signs down
Shore Drive (US 60) over the Lesner Bridge to the
overpass intersection with US 13, bearing onto the
right ramp (US 13 north) before going through the
US. 60 underpass. The Bridge Tunnel toll plaza is
located about one mile north on US 13. Tunnel

First Landing Seashore State
Park - Take Atlantic Avenue north to 83rd
Street, where it bears to the left and becomes Shore
Drive. The entrance to the park will be about 3 1/2
miles west down Shore Drive on the left. 2500

Francis Land House
- To savor the historic flavor of this colonial period
home, take Laskin Road west from the oceanfront to
its merger with Virginia Beach Blvd. Continue past
Great Neck and about a mile beyond the Lynnhaven
Parkway intersection on Virginia Beach Blvd to Kings
Grant Road. Turn left onto Kings Grant, the house

Little Creek Naval Amphibious
Base - Civilian access is limited, but
occasional open house events and celebrations are
held at the base. There are two ways of approaching
the main gate at Little Creek. North end of the beach
visitors should take Atlantic Avenue north to 83rd
Street, where it bears to the left and becomes Shore
Drive. Follow Shore Drive (US 60) over the Lesner
Bridge beyond the intersection with US 13. The main
gate entrance will be a little over a mile beyond
US 13 on the right just beyond the Independence Blvd
intersection at Gator Blvd. Mid or south end oceanfront
visitors should take I-264 west to Independence Road
north exit 17B. Follow Independence Blvd. north for
about five 1/2 miles until the intersection with
Shore Drive, turn left onto US. 60 and go about 1/3rd
of a mile. The main gate is on the right at Gator
Blvd. Shore Dr. and Gator Blvd.
Little Island Station
- From the oceanfront take Pacific Avenue south until
it becomes General Booth Blvd and follow this road
until it intersects and becomes Princess Anne Road.
Turn left onto Princess Anne and proceed until the
road forks with Sandbridge Road. Take the left fork
onto Sandbridge Road and proceed to the oceanfront.
Make a right onto Sandpiper Road and follow the road
just past the residential section (about 3 1/2 miles),
the Station parking will be on the left. south

Lynhaven House
- From the Oceanfront take I-264 west to Independence
Blvd. and exit onto 17 B, North Independence Blvd.
Continue north on Independence for about 3 miles
to Wishart Road. Turn right on Wishart and proceed
for about 3 1/2 blocks, the Lynnhaven House will

Oceana NAS - Civilian
access by auto is discouraged, however daily bus
service tours from the main Boardwalk Kiosk are provided
from May through September each year. tours depart
from 24th St. & Atlantic Ave. / 757-222-6100
Old Coast Guard Station
- Look at the history of U.S. Lifesaving and Coast
Guard Services heroics that took place here and just
off the coast. Located right on the Boardwalk between
22nd and 23rd Streets and Atlantic Avenue. 24th

Princess Anne Courthouse
- From the oceanfront take take Pacific Avenue /
General Booth Boulevard South to Princess Anne Road.
Continue straight on Princess Anne for about three
miles. The Municipal Center and Courthouse is at
the northwest corner of Princess Anne and North Landing

Pungo - For strawberries,
quaint restaurants and natural wildlife, plan an
adventure to Pungo. From the oceanfront take Pacific
Avenue / General Booth Boulevard South to Princess
Anne Road. Turn left onto Princess Anne and bear
to the right where Princess Anne and Sandbridge Roads
fork. When you reach the famous stoplight intersection
at Indian River Road, you have arrived in Pungo.

Upper Wolfsnare -
This historic home can sometimes be seen from I-264
and is just 2 1/2 miles from the oceanfront. Take
Virginia Beach Blvd. west from the oceanfront to
First Colonial Road. Take a left on First Colonial
and follow the road for about five blocks to where
the road makes a sharp right at Oceana Naval Air
Station and at that point becomes Potters Road. Go
about one mile, the entrance to Upper Wolfsnare is
on the right. off First Colonial Rd. and Potters
